Los Miticos Del Ritmo¬†‚Äď Los Miticos Del Ritmo

LABEL: Soundway Records

GENRE: World – South America

DATE: 23/04/12

From the sweltering tropical depths of Cali, Colombia Will ‚ÄėQuantic’ Holland’s studio band Los Miticos Del Ritmo (The Mythics of Rhythm), assembled using vallenato and cumbia musicians, return with an album of hip shaking, dancefloor quaking instrumental cumbias.

Recorded in Will’s home studio in Cali, his approach was to produce an album with the aesthetics of 1960s tropical recordings made in Colombia and the Caribbean. Careful attention made to preserve the analogue quality of the recording at every stage.

The record was recorded entirely on 4 track tape, using a process of overdubs and tape transfers to record multiple sessions at different times with different musicians. As Holland began to play the dub plates of the project in his DJ sets around the world, tracks like ‘Cumbia de Mochilla’ and ‘Another one Bites the Dust’ slowly became sure-fire dancefloor winners.¬†Other tracks on this feel good, house party cumbia LP include Michael Jackson’s ‚ÄėDon’t Stop’ and Gildardo Montoya’s ‚ÄėFabiola’ (as featured on Soundway’s ‚ÄėThe Original Sound of Cumbia’), alongside original cumbias.

Out today! Fliptrix’s new album, “Third Eye of the Storm”

April, 23rd 2012 16:10

Fliptrix returns with the third installment of his solo opus, “Third Eye Of The Storm”, released today through his own label,¬†High Focus Records.

The album, which has been two years in the making, depicts Fliptrix’s journey from where he used to position himself to where he finds himself today – from the confines that define our existence, to places unseen. Inspiration for his tracks are from a wide variety of sources, ranging from the demise of the planet to prophecies and predictions rooted in ancient civilisations.

While the project may be conceptually far more ambitious than any of Fliptrix’s previous work, there is no mistaking the trademark lyricism that he is renowned for.

From the bleak visions painted in “War To Your Door” to the conscious meditations of debut single “Mind Travelling”, and not forgetting the party track and second single “Wylin Out”, this is the album that will cement Fliptrix‚Äôs position as one of the most forward thinking emcees in the game and set him apart from the rest of the pack.

Featuring an all-star cast of UK’s finest lyricists such as Jehst, Farma G, Verb T, Buggsy, Ramson Badbonez and High Focus Record’s label-mate Jam Baxter, and stellar production from Chemo, 184, Jon Phonics, Medison, Naive, Runone,¬† Kerem Fraiche, Kontigo and High Focus label-mate Leaf Dog to name a few, this album is definitely one to watch out for.

Fliptrix throughout the album blew my mind with deep conceptual theories and approaches to chosen subjects […]¬†Anyone who enjoys their Hip-hop with a little bit of reflection, emotion and heartfelt attitude needs this album in their life.– Word Play Magazine

Savvy – “Jailbirds & Jailbait” single out today!

April, 16th 2012 16:32

Lifted from Savvy‘s recently released “Play To Win” vol. 3 mixtape, “Jailbirds & Jailbait” is a subversive throwback Hip Hop track, out today through Saving Grace Music. The humorous, often dark wordplay and vivid storytelling paint us a twisted picture of life up “norf”, set to a soundtrack of what we can only describe as Miss Marpel meets Ghostface Killer.

Savvy is also joined by Jack Flash, a talented artist blazing a trail at the forefront of the UK Hip Hop scene right now with his album “Progression”. He puts the icing on the cake with a chorus that sums up the track expertly – “It’s a stress filled place, full of tredmill days, make a killing of a raise, but the rents still late…”

This is twisted comedy hip-hop film noir… enjoy!

Mina Tindle ‚Äď Taranta

LABEL: Believe Recordings

GENRE: Alternative – Indie Pop

DATE: 11/04/12 (pre-order), 28/05/12 (release)

‚ÄúTaranta‚ÄĚ is Mina Tindle’s debut album, due for release on 28th May. Her name has been whispering through the pop-folk scene like a breath of fresh air for some years now, and a cosmopolitan name it is too (borrowed from Milo Tindle, a character in Joseph Mankiewicz’s 1972 film Sleuth) for a French singer (with Spanish roots) who has electrified anyone lucky enough to see her live or hear her self-produced songs.

The album was produced by JP Nataf (former lead singer with The Innocents), one of Mina Tindle’s musical idols and one of the great craftsmen of French pop.

You can pre-order ‚ÄúTaranta‚ÄĚ here:
