Mina Tindle –  Taranta

LABEL: Believe Recordings

GENRE: Alternative – Indie Pop

DATE: 28/05/12

After her well received debut EP at the end of 2011 (acclaimed blog Gorilla vs Bear rated it 22 in their top 100 albums of 2011), Mina Tindle’s stunning LP Taranta is out today through Believe Recordings.

Mina Tindle is a name that’s been whispering through the alternative-folk scene like a breath of fresh air for some years now. And a interesting name it is too (borrowed from Milo Tindle, a character in Joseph Mankiewicz’s 1972 film Sleuth) for a French singer (with Spanish roots) who has electrified anyone lucky enough to see her live or hear her self-produced songs. “It sums up where I’ve got to, but it’s also a new stage on the road,” says the French singer of her debut album, having done her fair share of knocking about – a coming-of-age trip to the US, a sensation on stage and on MySpace, working with different kinds of musicians – before she caught up with the leading pack of female folk-pop singers. Her album, produced by JP Nataf, reveals a free-roaming spirit searching for moments of musical grace. It’s a luscious, personal album that will remind some of Feist, Kate Bush and Emiliana Torrini. A stage victory.

She is already causing major waves in her native France, where everyone from Le Inrocks (who gave Taranta an amazing 4.5 out of 5!), Telerama and Liberation to fashion magazines Elle and Magic have hailed her as the next big thing.

” One of the most exquisite, promising, and generally unheard debuts of the year – Gorilla Vs Bear”

Woodkid –  Run Boy Run

LABEL: Green United Music

GENRE: Alternative

DATE: 21/05/12

“Run Boy Run” is the first single from Woodkid’s upcoming album “The Golden Age”. The album is due to be released by the end of the year.

Woodkid, aka Yoann Lemoine, is originally known as a very talented music video director, working with the likes of Yelle, Moby, Mystery Jets, Katy Perry, The Shoes and more recently Lana Del Rey (“Born To Die” and “Blue Jeans”) and Drake featuring Rihanna (“Take Care”). Woodkid was undoubtedly the first surprise of 2011, with a first EP “Iron” epic pop with symphonic power realeased on Green United Music in March 2011. In four original songs, he has become a must-known artist – what makes the buzz around Woodkid is that “Iron” came out with a music video, a futuristic tale in black & white directed by Yoann Lemoine himself. “Iron” has also already been used in two worldwide TV ad campaigns for Peugeot and in the trailer for Ubisoft’s last video game “Assassin’s Creed”. The video won numerous awards including “Music Video of the Year” at Namur Film Festival 2011.

Today Woodkid is considered as “the biggest parisian buzz since Daft Punk” (Les Inrockuptibles). He will be touring Europe in May/June – make sure you check him out!

Iggy Pop –  Après

LABEL: Thousand Mile Inc

DATE: 09/05/12

Iggy Pop’s career is a thrilling roller coaster ride at top speed. And yet, with the Stooges – the only 20th century rock band that can legitimately be called “seminal”– or as a solo artist, with or without a safety net, he has never veered an inch from his course, which was sometimes less crazy than it seemed but nevertheless always a hair-raising ride. Dictated only by Iggy’s artistic aspirations and moved by a vital urge to get down to basics, his line of conduct has led him to record, under French influence, the ten songs on “Après”, which is very much in tune with his present.

With his covers of “La vie en rose”, “Everybody’s Talking”, “Syracuse”, “Michelle” or “Et si tu n’existais pas”, Iggy is not trying to prove anything. He is simply turning the hidden side of his personality to the light, and letting others decide which of his sides is darker. Far from wild rhythms and exuding feelings he has chosen to express differently.

With a voice as beautiful as it is deep and which stirs your emotions, Iggy Pop takes on these standards and tailors them to his nature to produce thrilling results. In the elegance of these arrangements, which do not mislead but rather pare the songs down to the essentials, there is a conviction sharper than any blade. The choice of songs and the quality of their interpretation is clear: “Après” is, above all, an ode to love. The kind of love that both intoxicates and devastates, that makes you feel alive or like jumping off a bridge.

“Everything’s Ok” by Rewd Adams & The Last Skeptik is out now!

May, 8th 2012 17:15

“Everything’s OK”, the new single by rapper Rewd Adams & DJ/producer The Last Skeptik is out now through Bread & Butter Records. This track is the first offering from their anticipated forthcoming album, “How Not To Make A Living”.

There is no other way to describe lead single “Everything’s OK” apart from ‘massive’. It is a 120bpm behemoth-like banger of a track, with the undeniable bounce of Outkast and an extremely infectious hook. The single is backed with two album songs that remind you of the raw hip hop roots that nurtured Skeptik and Rewd’s earlier works. “Bring It Back” features a stanky large drum break and keys from Skep, steel-clad bars spat from Rewd, and cuts from DMC world champion DJ Mr Thing. Third track “Nukey” has a heavy drum break and synths from Skep, with Rewd channelling his inner Big Daddy Kane via the hardcore ferocity of Blade.

The duo collaborated with animator Sonny Malhorta, who has created an amazing video – a collage of colourful and visually engaging pictures and photographs on a moving canvas, to accompany the track.

Check out the video here:
