Sir Christopher Lee marks 92nd birthday releasing heavy metal version of Sinatra’s ‘My Way’

May, 28th 2014 15:15

christopher leeLord Of The Rings star Sir Christopher Lee has celebrated his 92nd birthday by releasing a heavy metal version of the Frank Sinatra classic ‘My Way’ which is one of seven tracks on the album ‘Metal Knight’ recorded with the Italian band Rhapsody of Fire,  distributed via Zimbalam.

Sir Christopher, who turned 92 today, said: “The song My Way is a very remarkable song, it is also difficult to sing because you’ve got to convince people that what you’re singing about is the truth.”

The actor also said his version of the song was sung “more operatically” than Sinatra – who first recorded the track in 1968.

Believe New Releases wc 26/05/2014

May, 27th 2014 12:32

meadowlarkArtist: Meadowlark
Release: Three Six Five EP
Label: Believe Recordings
Genre: Alternative

Plymouth trio Meadowlark will release their debut EP ‘Three Six Five’ on May 26 via Believe Recordings. The band will tour the UK throughout May, including a London show at the Sebright Arms on May 27.

Lead Track ‘Family Tree’ is the perfect introduction to Meadowlark, as it blends cinematic orchestral arrangements with sparse, echoing piano chimes and subtle guitar swirls that bring to mind the pristine pop traits of London Grammar. Over the course of the EP’s four tracks however, Meadowlark display a diverse pool of emotion, influence and style that range from the hushed, brooding moments on the aptly titled ‘Forlorn’ to the joyous sing-along crescendos on ‘I’ve Got You’.

As eluded to by the debut EP’s title, the band have been together for just a year (almost exactly to the EP’s release date) after meeting at a Tallest Man On Earth gig and instantly deciding to join forces. The band are fronted by chief songwriter Kate McGill who, at the time of meeting bandmates Carl Jones and Daniel Broadley (who often rotate instrumental duties), was the 13th most subscribed to musician on YouTube, tallying up millions of hits on her covers of Adele, Fleet Foxes and The Shins.

The Three Six Five EP was recorded and produced by Peter Miles (Dry The River, We Are The Ocean, Sonic Boom Six) at Middle Farm Studios over a period of one week. It boasts four intricate and introspective songs that showcase Meadowlark’s collaborative ability to rework McGill’s songs into fully-fledged soundscapes that reference their mutual love for Bon Iver and Sigur Ros.

hot since 82Artist: Hot Since 82
Release: Don’t Touch the Alarm
Label: Knee Deep in Sound
Genre: Dance – House

Hot Since 82 really can do no wrong. Off the back of last year’s hugely successful LP ‘Little Black Book’, the thought-provoking video for his gorgeous track ‘The End’ and his appearance on the latest Mixmag cover, Leeds-born producer and man of the moment Daley Padley announces his new label, ‘Knee Deep In Sound’.
It was only a matter of time before Daley’s constant and consistent production achievements birthed the desire to found his own label. The name of his new imprint is a fitting nod to ‘Knee Deep In Louise’, one of the tracks that put him on the house music map and fast-tracked his success. Both the label and its first release drop in perfect timing for the summer and into the reaching hands of Ibiza hordes, hungry for a new anthem.
“Knee deep in sound is something that I’ve always wanted to do – have a quality underground label that also keeps the vinyl dream alive. The idea came around after l was getting so much good music sent via facebook or twitter from artists that are just not getting the time of day from other labels’ Daley explains. ‘And that’s something that lm purely about. Giving back, giving time and my experience to others that want to live the same dream.”

Release: Brownswood Electric 4
Label: Brownswood Recordings
Genre: Dance

From Gilles Peterson’s Brownswood imprint comes the latest ‘Brownswood Electric 4′ compilation. It features exclusive music from a new crop of up and comers. Some like Frenchman Nikitch and Belgian wunderkind LTGL are fresh out of the blocks, whilst the likes of Deft, Adam Elemental, Glenn Astro, D Tiberio and B Lewis have cultivated relative online infamy in recent times, each carving out their own unique path and singular artistry. As usual it runs the full gamut of styles, skipping from searing hypercolour hip-hop / bass hybrids; through ever so slightly wonky deep house; furious footworkin’ D&B that recalls vintage Metalheadz cuts circa ’96 (but somehow sounds steadfastly futuristic); awesomely drunken RnB; wrecking ball 808-driven bangerz; and introspective emo bumps… It’s a cluttered, chaotic, hyperactive kaleidoscopic trip.

tiumaniArtist: Toumani Diabate & Sidiki Diabate
Release: Toumani & Sidiki
Label: World Circuit
Genre: World – African

“The finest Toumani collaboration since his classic work with Ali Farka Touré” The Guardian *****
“All you have to do is decide if you can believe your ears.” MOJO ****
Toumani & Sidiki is a dazzling dialogue – between father and son; past and future; power and restraint – conducted through the kora, the 21-string West African harp which the Diabaté dynasty has transformed into the most iconic of African instruments.
Father-and-son collaborations are rare enough, but the ties binding Toumani and Sidiki Diabaté are particularly profound and evocative. Descended from a long line of griots – custodians of the ancient oral traditions of West Africa’s Mandé people – they are two generations of kora players in a family lineage which stretches back hundreds of years.
“One of the world’s pre-eminent musicians in any genre.” Observer
“All you have to do is decide if you can believe your ears.” MOJO****
“I’ve never in my life been that close to anybody playing anything that well” Word
“one of the Worlds greatest musicians” Pitchfork
