t williamsArtist: T. Williams

Release: Acoustic Treatment EP
Label: Today, Tomorrow Records
Genre: Dance

UK House producer T. Williams has a history drenched with the sounds of the underground, initially finding roots with the Grime, Garage, and Jungle styles. T. Williams incorporates those influences in his classic yet innovative 4×4 House records.

The new Acoustic Treatment EP marks the debut full-length release on T‚Äôs own ‘Today, Tomorrow’ imprint. The record begins with ‚ÄúBack & Forth‚ÄĚ, a peak-time Chicago House anthem featuring pitched down vocals paired with consistently overlaid stabbing synths. ‚ÄúPrivilege‚ÄĚ, a collaboration with MJ Cole, provides a groovy and uplifting piano-driven melody, while ‚ÄúNot Leaving‚ÄĚ bestows a more downtempo and sultry vibe with powerful vocals and a deep acid-tinged bass line.

The record finishes off with ‚ÄúDays End‚ÄĚ, a chill uptempo Jazz-inspired tune with a smooth saxophone backing, the perfect ending to the EP. The release communicates the ethos T.Williams has become known for – always taking notes from the past with an ear towards the future.

nubiyan twist smallArtist: Nubiyan Twist

Release:  Nubiyan Twist
Label: Wormfood Records Ltd
Genre: R&B

‚ÄúA beautiful blend of groovy dub with uplifting horns and soulful female vocals‚ÄĚ THE GUARDIAN

Spreading the love across the UK with their monumental fusion of soul, jazz, dub, hip hop and afrobeat, 12-piece outfit Nubiyan Twist are poised to release their eponymous debut long player. Released 30th March on Wormfood Records, the album will likely appeal to fans of Jill Scott, Fela Kuti, The Heliocentrics and Common.

A culmination of brilliant musicians, DJs and producers, fuelled by the laidback, soulful delivery of female vocalist Nubiya Brandon, ‚ÄėNubiyan Twist‚Äô fuses groove-driven music from around the world with soundsystem culture and jazz-inspired improvisation. Encouraging artistic and social unity between different cultures and musical styles, notable influences include the likes of Fela Kuti, King Tubby, J Dilla, Herbie Hancock and Nat King Cole.

From the futuristic textures and mesmeric brass of the album opening, recent single, the groove laden ‚ÄėWork House‚Äô, combines infectiously danceable grooves, punchy arrangements and a giant sound.

The dancefloor-driven ‚ÄėStraight Lines‚Äô melds heavyweight soundsystem attitude with a carnival-feel, whilst ‚ÄėHyponotized‚Äô blends afrobeat and reggae.

‚ÄėFigure Numatic‚Äô, is sultry jazz/hip-hop, Brandon blending a melodic tone and presence reminiscent of the jazz greats of the 40s/50s with a rap style firmly rooted in the golden era of hip hop – a blend of laidback delivery and abstract lyricism.

The ultra-tight grooves of ‚ÄėShake Down‚Äô is a modern take on traditional afrobeat, paying homage to the likes of Ebo Taylor and Tony Allen, with warm melodies and punchy horn arrangements similar to those of The Hot 8 Brass Band and Youngblood Brass Band.

Grown in the fertile Leeds music scene while studying at Leeds College Of Music, Nubiyan Twist are now mostly resident in London, with a hardcore faction based at Henwood Studios, the custom studio they built in Oxfordshire out of hay bales and cement as Nubiyan HQ.

Having won acclaim for their mesmerising live performances, over the band’s 3 year lifespan they’ve collaborated with Ruby Wood (Submotion Orchestra), played alongside De La Soul, Bonobo, Quantic, MF Doom, Robert Glasper Experiment, Gentlemen’s Dub Club and DJ Yoda, and can count BBC 6 Music’s Huey Morgan as a fan.

bvsc smallArtist: Buena Vista Social Club
Release: Lost and Found
Label: World Circuit
Genre: World

‚Äúboth timeless and thoroughly contemporary..‚ÄĚ – fROOTSAlmost two decades after the release of the original, Grammy winning album, the romance of the Buena Vista Social Club continues with Lost and Found, a collection of previously unreleased tracks, some recorded at the first legendary sessions in Havana with producer Ry Cooder and others during the extraordinarily rich outpouring of music that followed.

The original Buena Vista Social Club album was recorded for World Circuit Records by Ry Cooder and Nick Gold over seven days in Havana in 1996, bringing together many of the great names of the golden age of Cuban music in the 1950s, several of whom were coaxed out of retirement for the sessions. The album became a surprise international best-seller and the most successful album in the history of Cuban music.

At the time, nobody had any idea that the record was merely the start of a musical phenomenon. In the years that followed the Buena Vista veterans toured the world to ecstatic audiences and were the subject of a celebrated feature film directed by Wim Wenders. Further acclaimed recordings followed, including solo releases by the singers Ibrahim Ferrer and Omara Portuondo, virtuoso pianist Rub√©n Gonz√°lez and bassist Cacha√≠to L√≥pez and a celebratory live album recorded at a triumphant concert at New York‚Äôs Carnegie Hall. Buena Vista Social Club had become a household name. A core band featuring several of the original musicians continue to sell out shows world-wide as Orquesta Buena Vista Social Club. They embark on their farewell ‚ÄėAdios‚Äô tour in 2015.

“Over the years we were often asked what unreleased material was left in the vaults,‚ÄĚ says World Circuit‚Äôs Nick Gold. ‚ÄúWe knew of some gems, favourites amongst the musicians, but we were always too busy working on the next project to go back and see what else we had. When we eventually found the time, we were astonished at how much wonderful music there was.‚ÄĚ

All the studio tracks were recorded for World Circuit at the Egrem studio in Havana during the rich and prolific period of creativity that followed the recording of the original album and stretched into the early 2000s. Spiced with live recordings from the same fertile period, there’s a tremendous and sometimes surprising variety to the material heard on Lost and Found. But there is a unifying thread built around a core collective of legendary musicians expressing an esprit de corps which everyone who was ever enchanted by Buena Vista Social Club will recognise and enjoy.

rewd adams smallArtist: Rewd Adams
Release: Hunger Pains 2
Label: RoadSound Music
Genre: Hip Hop

REWD ADAMS returns with a brand new mixtape – HUNGER PAINS 2, the fourth chapter in the Rewd Adams story, following a brief hiatus on from the previous chapters in the saga.

It has been a while since REWD touched down on the previous instalment, but there’s no time like the present and that’s exactly where REWD is at his sharpest, and trust me he’s never been more switched on than this latest offering.

HUNGER PAINS 2 still delivers REWD ADAMS’ lighting fast, dextrous wit and charm, but this time he’s hungry for more: REWD is on form, sat down; elbows firmly perched on the table, knife and fork in hand ready to eat what life has to offer. Not only have the ingredients matured but also the level of preparation has gone up a notch too. REWD ADAMS isn’t just solely about spraying bars or dropping a hot sixteen anymore, this guy can cook up songs and serve hooks that would sit on many a platter.

This new project picks up where the previous volume left off: those unbearable, stabbing, migraine inducing pains of hunger and raw talent that drove the first version have now evolved, especially after vital lessons learned on REWD AWAKENING and HOW NOT TO MAKE A LIVING, Rewd Adams is rejuvenated and ready for the world with a fresh outlook

HUNGER PAINS 2 sits ambiguously between hip hop and the ‚Äėgrey area‚Äô in a way that‚Äôs distinctly unique without sounding tacky, or trying to be placed where most would consider urban as the genre of choice. Beat selection plays a big part too with REWD ADAMS rolling with two top chefs in TEEZA and BEAT BUTCHA guys at the top of their game who have each produced genre defining records with the biggest names in their respective scenes. Further collaborations come in the form of JETSUN, CARDIAK, LA based SINITUS TEMPO, LDN PRODUCTIONS, with the sole collaboration on the tape coming from RINSE MC.

At twelve condense tracks deep ‚ÄėHUNGER PAINS 2‚Äô is easier to swallow than most‚Ķ REWD ADAMS is still warming up but this serving will leave you more than fulfilled.

The album will be delivered in two formats: the first being a mixed version, stitched together by mix tape icon, KISS FM Hip Hop show hosting and DIZZEE RASCAL tour supporting DJ MK.

grummArtist: Grum

Release:  Sunday Blue Sky
Label:  Glasgow Underground
Genre: Dance

‚ÄėSunday Blue Sky‚Äô is a classic from Scottish house producer Grum. It boasts effortless, elastic rhythm and striking Orbital-influenced chords all topped with a wistful, dreamy vocal. An unusual mix that Grum contorts into a killer piece of electronic pop.

Remixes come from Petar Dundov and King Unique. Dundov turns in an absolute gem of a remix with the Croatian delivering the kind of elongated, pulsing masterpiece that will ‚Äď like his classic ‚ÄúOasis‚ÄĚ ‚Äď be perfect for DJs as varied as John Digweed and Prins Thomas. Matt Thomas aka King Unique adds a rough, bass-driven house workout with its roots firmly in the today‚Äôs electronic scene, yet fondly reminiscent of early Junior Boys Own.

maestroArtist: Maestro

Release: Mountains of Madness
Label: Tigersushi
Genre: Dance

Maestro is a duo. Comprised of Mark “The Butcher” Kerr (the band’s Scottish singer and previously a member of hard rock band Gun, short-lived analogue-kraut-noise group Jackos, and Joakim’s band The Disco) and Fred “The Mad Scientist” Soulard (the band’s French technical wiz), Maestro make scuzzy dance music – or dancey scuzz music? – and debuted on the label in 2010 with A War Zone. Together they produced their first album “Mountains of Madness” to be released worldwide on the 16th of March. Maestro’s music is probably the most difficult to put into words Tigersushi has released so far. It’s the No in No Wave, the Post in Post Punk.
Maestro incarnation on stage will be a threesome with the addition of Antoine ‘The Beast’ on drums. A live show between your unspoken dreams and your worst nightmares, dark, extatic and visceral.

etherwoodArtist: Etherwood
Release:¬†You’ll Always Be a Part of Me¬†
Label:  Medschool Music
Genre: Dance

Etherwood offers the first glimpse into his highly-anticipated second album with a brand new single on Med School. Instantly captivating, “You’ll Always Be A Part Of Me” is a three-minute escape that exudes the polished Etherwood essence that we’ve come to expect, surrounded by symphonic melodies and emotive lyrics. His own instantly-recognisable vocals are accompanied by poignant piano chords and downtempo percussion, creating a powerful yet simultaneously elegant and melancholic piece.
Etherwood’s self-titled debut album culminated in widespread acclaim and several accolades including Best Newcomer DJ and Producer at the Drum & Bass Arena Awards. It demonstrated a hint of his musical prowess, but “You’ll Always Be a Part of Me” clearly illustrates how his skills as a songwriter and musician have flourished since then. 2014 was an extremely important year for this continually-growing artist as he delivered stunning remixes for the likes of Gorgon City and Alex Clare and contributed vocals to Fred V & Grafix’s “Forest Fires” which shot up the BBC Radio 1 playlist. Etherwood also assembled a live band to perform a number of tracks from his debut album at the iconic Maida Vale Studio for broadcast on BBC Radio 1 & 1Xtra.

Following on from the incredibly well received “Amen Roadtrip” released in January as part of Hospital Records’ “Hospitality 2015” compilation, this new single is reminiscent of Etherwood’s signature sound and embodies his unique ability to combine the organic with the electronic whilst moving several significant steps forward.

nnekaArtist: Nneka

Release: My Fairy Tales
Label: Bushqueen Music

My Fairy Tales‚Äô to me is a concept album exploring the life of Africans in the diaspora and the struggles they face. The album portrays the good aspects of falling in love and the importance of being responsible towards children, as well as the significance of culture, education and identity values. My travels and spending a lot of time in France influenced me in writing an album that doesn’t just explain the suffering of Africans, but the aspects of endurance, perseverance and gratitude, which is a shared attribute of people across the globe.‚Äô The music has an authentic, easy going, Afro beat and roots feel to it. Mainly recorded and produced in France, Denmark and Nigeria. Mounir Maarouf from France produced five songs, Silver Bullit team from Denmark produced two songs, and ‚ÄėThe Slag‚Äô aka Marcus Nigsch and Nneka produced one song with 4 times Grammy award engineer James ‚ÄėBonzai‚Äô Caruso known from his work with Daimen and Stephen Marley on mixing duties.
