Artist: Vinyl Williams
Release: Into
Label: Company Records
Genre: Alternative

The record ripples outward into blissful sonic geography. Lead track ‘World Soul’ sounds like celestial soul music; ’Gold Lodge’ floats on jazzy chords and a propulsive baseline; ’Greatest Lives’ and ‘Iguana City’ are loungey new age jams that continually unfold; ‘Xol Rumi’ closes the album in an etheric motorik voyage. Uniquely, all the album’s 14 tracks are written, performed and produced solely by the multi-instrumentalist Williams.

Artist: Quantic
Release: A New Constellation
Label: Tru Thoughts
Genre: Jazz

Quantic Presents The Western Transient is the latest project from Will “Quantic” Holland, bringing together a handpicked band of some of his favourite American musicians to realise a set of new compositions paying homage to the rich, lively and intimate quality of the classic soul and jazz recordings. The resulting album, ‘A New Constellation’, is out on Tru Thoughts; in characteristically mercurial fashion this new outing sees Holland following up the explosive, worldly electronic and vocal direction of his hugely acclaimed last solo album, ‘Magnetica’, with a suite of traditionally recorded pieces that capture the spontaneous beauty in the old ways of music making.

Artist: Holy Esque
Release: Submission
Label: Beyond The Frequency
Genre: Alternative

Glaswegian four piece Holy Esque have been rapidly building a reputation as one of the most exciting bands to emerge from the UK’s independent music scene with high profile support from the likes of BBC Radio 1, The Independent, The Daily Telegraph, The Sunday Times and NME. Armed with their distinct brand of arena style hooks, post-punk rhythms, and lead singer Pat Hynes’ unique trademark vocals, the band are set to reclaim this year with the new EP ‘Submission’, which also marks their first physical release. Veering in between the chaotic dark feel of 80’s English post-punk and modern electro-pop, ’Submission’ sees the band pushing into new territories. Recorded in Copenhagen’s STC Studios and mixed by double-Grammy award producer Jon Schumann (Kashmir, Mew), the collection of songs on the EP display a set of irresistible and infectious melodies that hint at the potential of the bands debut album, scheduled for release in January 2016.

Artist:  Skylar Spence
Release: Can’t You See
Label: CarPark
Genre: Alternative

When Ryan DeRobertis announced the name change of his project from Saint Pepsi to Skylar Spence, there was no indication of any stylistic departure, though the change arrived with a musical shift toward faster tempos and more pristine production. Whereas Saint Pepsi had often used decades-old boogie, disco, and new wave as grist for the sampling mill, Skylar Spence is intent on trafficking more overtly in those genre aesthetics through his own production techniques and vocal contributions. With Prom King, DeRobertis reorients his music for his new full-band live act and winds up with an album full of tight and enveloping dance tunes.

Artist:  Being As An Ocean
Release: Being As An Ocean
Label: Impericon Records
Genre: Heavy Metal

Listening to the self-titled album by Being As An Ocean, you will notice the engrained emotionality at first. The band from California is best known for being highly passionate about their music and lyrics – and for non-stop touring of course. Following the path of the last years, “How We Both Wondrously Perish”, the band is going further towards the direction of a self-contained mixture of emo/screamo, metalcore and even postcore. The lyrics of Joel Quartuccio touch the heart of the listeners because the frontman turns the innermost part of his soul to the outside. Being presented in a spoken word style time and time again, his words have to be characterized as sincere and unvarnished. With the music it is no difference: On their third album, BEING AS AN OCEAN keep on discovering soundscapes which showcase pure catharsis and a suitable transformation of emotionality into music. The ten tracks of the self titled album are raw and catchy at the same time, while representing a band which is acting intuitionally and impulsively. Without any delay listeners will understand the deep going motivation that is the mainspring for everything BEING AS AN OCEAN are doing: dedication and passion.

Artist: Heyrocco
Release: Teenage Movie Soundtrack
Label: Vital Music Group
Genre: Indie Pop

“Bubblegum pop meets the primordial rage of grunge, there’s a sense of The Cure’s introversion here matched to the sludge of Mudhoney” – Clash

“’Virgin’ mimics the angst-ridden grunge of Nirvana, while flecks of Pavement ensure a distinctly nostalgic flavour to these guitar heroes” – NME

“Cue the light wash denim jeans and tattoo chokers because Heyrocco’s new single launches us right into 90’s teenage movie nostalgia. Like these Southern sweethearts, we admittedly might not have been the coolest kids in high school—but at least we can pretend like we were while listening to some 90’s inspired rock and roll.” – NYLON
