Thumbnails & Long form Content

February, 29th 2016 16:49

Flume Thumbnail

Thumbnails act as a mini marketing image for your videos. They should be bold, engaging and clear in order to make viewers follow through to your content.

Thumbnails are also a good way of representing and maintaining your brand presence on YouTube, therefore it is best to be consistent with branded thumbnails across the videos on your channel.

Long form content has a really positive effect on the YouTube algorithm due to an increased watch time.

Not only does this mean your content surfaces higher on YouTube, but you also generate a higher source of revenue.

Long form content can be anything from compilation mixes to full album streams, so get producing.

February, 26th 2016 09:05

Artist: Holy Esque

Release: At Hope’s Ravine
Label: Beyond The Frequency
Genre: Alternative

Glasgow’s Holy Esque announce the release of their long-awaited debut album At Hope’s Ravine, released February 26th 2016 via Beyond The Frequency.

At Hope’s Ravine is the debut album by Holy Esque. It is a primal, muscular, and utterly elemental work Рa true epic in an era when such an epithet is overused. Here, bold is beautiful and the Glasgow quartet’s messages of hope and grief, escape and yearning are writ large across sonic skies. This is epic 21st century music occasionally reminiscent of Boy-era U2, early Simple Minds and Echo & The Bunnymen or perhaps more contemporary bands such The National, The Walkmen, Interpol and Titus Andronicus.

In a whirlwind 2014 and 2015, Loops debuted at #1 on iTunes in South Africa, won the MTV Best Pop Alternative 2015, headlined major festivals, and maintained #1 on the three most prominent radio stations in Southern Africa with “Down South”, his breakout single.

Label: Gothic Luau
Genre: Pop – Rock

Her name is Lea Lea and we’re excited to introduce you to ‘Die Pretty, Volume I’ the anticipated follow up to her self titled album.

‚ÄúDie Pretty Volume 1‚ÄĚ is an intersection of where Led Zeppelin meets Kelis, where Janis Joplin meets Santogold. Inspired by Lea Lea’s electrifying and critically acclaimed performances she wanted to mix things up for this EP; take things back to basics, get her band in a studio, crack open some tequila and record everything live. Produced again by the mighty Jack Baker (Bonobo, Alice Russell), they set out to create a raw sounding Psychedelic Rock Pop EP. Embellished with thunderous beats and bold vocals that climax into a Robert Palmer like wail and explosive rifts.

Staring out from the cover with (non-artificially) blackened eye, paranoid android Dan Sartain goes back to the future for Century Plaza a new album of darkly nuanced electro-pop, released via One Little Indian on 19th February.

While Suicide and Alan Vega have long been acknowledged influences (a cover of Wipeout Beat features) Century Plaza finds Sartain trolling the British synth-pop wave of 80-84 particularly Depeche Mode – for inspiration, opening the record with a funereal remake of Walk Among the Cobras.

Far from the archetypal bluegrass band, the five-piece’s new album, which consists of 11 originals and 3 covers, is an accomplished collection of genre-busting tracks.

Recorded in the wonderfully isolated Deep Litter Studio at Start Point, South Devon in August 2015, ‚ÄėKing Of My Mind‚Äô was the culmination of five years spent honing their performance and songwriting skills. This came to fruition in the recording process where, alongside award-winning producer David McEwan (Plan B), the album took just five days to complete.

TAD – New App for Making Professional Sleeve Artwork for Digital Releases

February, 4th 2016 14:59

TAD 600 450

TAD is a brand new App for iOS that helps every DIY or Indie musician (or harassed label manager!) create high quality professional digital artwork in minutes. The app¬†is currently free to download and is like having an experienced designer help you put together cover art as you’re led through the process.¬†You start from scratch or from¬†templates based on classic album designs and principles.¬†Multiple¬†areas of text can be added in a great range of fonts and all can be adjusted for colour and transparency.¬†Logos can be added easily and the finished design can be exported at 3000px square – high enough resolution to satisfy all digital retailers. The key thing is that this is easier to use than any desktop design tool and photo editing apps and it’s dedicated to solve a problem faced by many music creators. A great tool.
