Savvy – “Jailbirds & Jailbait” single out today!

April, 16th 2012 16:32

Lifted from Savvy‘s recently released “Play To Win” vol. 3 mixtape, “Jailbirds & Jailbait” is a subversive throwback Hip Hop track, out today through Saving Grace Music. The humorous, often dark wordplay and vivid storytelling paint us a twisted picture of life up “norf”, set to a soundtrack of what we can only describe as Miss Marpel meets Ghostface Killer.

Savvy is also joined by Jack Flash, a talented artist blazing a trail at the forefront of the UK Hip Hop scene right now with his album “Progression”. He puts the icing on the cake with a chorus that sums up the track expertly – “It’s a stress filled place, full of tredmill days, make a killing of a raise, but the rents still late…”

This is twisted comedy hip-hop film noir… enjoy!

“Taranta” is Mina Tindle’s debut album, due for release on 28th May. Her name has been whispering through the pop-folk scene like a breath of fresh air for some years now, and a cosmopolitan name it is too (borrowed from Milo Tindle, a character in Joseph Mankiewicz’s 1972 film Sleuth) for a French singer (with Spanish roots) who has electrified anyone lucky enough to see her live or hear her self-produced songs.

The album was produced by JP Nataf (former lead singer with The Innocents), one of Mina Tindle’s musical idols and one of the great craftsmen of French pop.

The Rumour Said Fire – The Arrogant

LABEL: Believe Digital

FORMAT: LP

GENRE: Alternative

DATE: 01/04/12

Danish post-rockers The Rumour Said Fire’s critically acclaimed debut album is available now in the UK through Believe Digital.

Conceived by singer, songwriter Jesper Lidang in 2008, The Rumour Said Fire soon became one of Denmark’s biggest bands, with their first EP “The Life And Death Of A Male Body” becoming a huge hit. After the EP the band went immediately to Copenhagen’s Moono studio where they spent six very intense months writing and recording during the spring of 2010. Producer Aske Zidore (Oh No Ono) rehearsed the band relentlessly so they could record at the very peak of their powers, though the songs would morph and twist as they played, there was always space for creativity and intuition.

The songs that have made it to the band’s debut LP are lit by a sense of wonder and adventure. Jesper’s consideration for the wider world of thought and ideas and the striking beauty in things besides music, as well as his love for surrealism, has had a deep impact on the lyrics of The Arrogant.

“Ruthlessly charming, harmony-heavy debut from Denmark’s finest pop scientists.” - Q 4/5

“By The Shore is touched by the deep drama and exquisite melancholy of the Bee Gee’s finest late-60′s chamber-pop.” – The Guardian

Breton – Other People’s Problems

LABEL: FatCat Records

FORMAT: LP

GENRE: Alternative

DATE: 26/03/2012

Today sees the release of the London based four-piece Breton’s debut album, “Other People’s Problems”.

Breton are primarily film-makers with cutting-edge video and sound design work under their belts, delivering innovative remixes for the likes of Local Natives, Tricky, Tom Vek and Temper Trap, as well as being award winners and regular fixtures at film festivals for their independent short films.

The single “Interference”, featured on the album, has already received solid support from Radio 1 with DJs Zane Lowe, Huw Stephens and Annie Mac playing it on their show. The band also recently toured with Tom Vek and Ghostpoet, and they are headlining a sold-out show at Corsica Studios, London on 28th March, followed by Manchester on 29th and Leeds on 30th before they go on to gig in Europe, Canada and America.

Predicted to be the “UK indie upstarts” of 2012 by Sound on Sound, Breton are a band to watch out for this year.

Q – “Elegant strings and brass, recorded by Hauschka, creep like ivy around this all-consuming debut’s clipped beats, pummelles basslines, shimmering synths and fluttering pianos and harp.” 4 stars
