Believe UK’s Top Albums Of 2012 – Staff Pick #1: Leigh Morgan

November, 27th 2012 15:49

As another successful year of independent music draws to a close, it can safely be said that 2012 has seen some truly remarkable records, and Believe Digital has been lucky enough to work with a number of labels responsible for a large chunk of them.  Here at the Believe UK HQ, we thought it would be a nice idea to share some of these records; a hand-picked selection of our favorites by each and every member of the team! In true festive spirit, from now until Christmas we’ll be posting each nominated record here on the blog in a make-shift Believe Advent Calendar – but with music. You get the idea. Here’s the first entry…

Staff Pick #1: Leigh Morgan

Artist: The 2 Bears
Release: Be Strong
Label: Southern Fried Records
Release Date: June 2012

Picked by:
Leigh Morgan | International Trade Marketing Manager

“A joyously fun album, reminiscent of early 90’s house and electronica, ‘Be Strong’ brings a smile to the face on every listen, and is a welcome antidote to the more serious albums of recent times in the genre. Follow the bears” – Leigh Morgan.

Formed in 2009, this furry electronic band are made up of Joe Goddard (Hot Chip) and Raf Rundell (Greco Roman Soundsystem). As well as making their own blend of 2-step, house, hip-hop and soul, The 2 Bears have remixed for the likes of Jessie Ware, Santigold, Metronomy and Death Cab For Cutie and were featured by Virtual Festival as ‘Ones To Watch in 2012’. Released via Norman Cook’s forward thinking Southern Fried imprint, ‘Be Strong’ features stand-out tracks ‘Bear Hug’, ‘Church’ and the crowd favourite and title track, ‘Be Strong’. The album shows their versatility in making catchy electronic songs without taking their music too seriously, with the duo’s influences including Polar Bears, Grizzly Bears and Bear Grylls.
